Delete a domain

You can decide to terminate your domain name subscription yourself. In special cases, Norid can initiate a deletion process even though you have not requested this. In both cases, you need to contact your registrar, or a new registrar, to clarify the matter.

How to delete a domain name

Contact the registrar for the domain and specify the domain name to be deleted.

The legal contact for the domain signs a declaration of deletion and sends it to the registrar. For private domain names the one to sign is the holder personally.

The registrar submits the request and the declaration to us. If the documents are OK, the domain will be deleted.

Domain names can be deleted by Norid

In special cases, we can initiate a deletion process. For example, if your domain name registration has not been renewed, or if it is no longer associated with an organization that has a valid organization number.

Whatever the reason, we will send you a notice in good time. The notice informs you that the domain name is at risk of deletion, and tells you what you need to do to stop the process: Contact a registrar, who will help you sort things out.

To ensure that this kind of notices reach you, you must keep the information associated with your domain name up to date at all times.
