Delete a domain

You can decide to terminate your domain name subscription yourself. In special cases, Norid can initiate a deletion process even though you have not requested this. In both cases, you need to contact your registrar, or a new registrar if you need or want to change.

How to delete a domain name

Contact the registrar for the domain.

Specify the domain name to be deleted and other information that the registrar asks for.

The registrar fills in a deletion form.

The legal contact person for the domain (legal-c) signs the deletion form and send it to the registrar.

The registrar notifies Norid, which takes care of the domain name deletion.

Domain names can be deleted by Norid

In special cases, Norid can initiate a deletion process. For example, this applies if your domain name registration has not been renewed, or if it is no longer associated with an organization that has a valid organization number.

Whatever the reason, we will send you a notice in good time. The notice informs you that the domain name is at risk of deletion, and tells you what you need to do to prevent deletion if the process still can be stopped: contact a registrar, who will help you to keep or transfer the domain name.

To ensure that notices reach you, you must ensure that the information associated with your domain name registration is always correct.
