Information and dissemination on Internet issues

Internet has developed at a very rapid pace during the short period that Internet has been a public property, and there are no signs at all that we are approaching the end. On the contrary we are seeing a range of incidents both technically and politically which may have great impact on all Internet users.

Industry, authorities as well as people in general are getting more and more dependent of being on-line. From a situation where Internet was an alternative and supplementary channel for information, Internet has become the only possibility for gathering information and getting in contact. We are getting more and more vulnerable, and each individual has to get more knowledge on the possibilities as well as the risks.

Impartial knowledge dissemination

Norid wants to communicate actively on Internet and domain name issues. This happens on many arena and towards many target groups. It is overall important that all requests to Norid are properly answered, and we are working continously to improve content as well as functionality for our website. We also offer presentations on Internet issues to various groups, such as authorities, lawyers, supervisors, school classes, etc.

Supporting R and D

During the last years we have contributed actively to research on legal issues regarding Internet. In 2006 we initiated a joint project with the Department of Private Law (SERI) at the University of Oslo; Internet Governance: Infrastructure and Institutions. Among the results we want to mention a book published by Oxford University Press.

As from 2010, the project was reinforced with funding from the Research Council of Norway as well, and the scope were widened. The current name is Governance of the Domain Name System and the Future Internet: New Parameters, New Challenges.
