The registration fee and the annual fee increases
On 1 March 2010 the fees for registration and annual upkeep will rise to NOK
60. In addition to covering the general price increase over the last few years, this
rise is caused by Norid's need to lessen our deficit due to heightened demands for
security and emergency preparedness.
We would also like to inform you that we will introduce the regular reistration fee
to domain transfers between holders (not between registrars). This will however not
happen until after the new registry system has been set into production.
Old wording of Charges
and billing routines:
Registration fee
This is a one-time fee which covers our costs in connection with the domain
application. In addition, registrars charge a fee for their work with the application
and for getting the domain technically operational. A registrar is free to price his
services, which means that the amount domain applicants pay will vary. The
registration fee paid to Norid is NOK 50.
Annual fee
The annual fee is a subscription fee which covers our running costs in connection with
quality assurance, maintenance and development of the domain service. The fee is
billed to the registrar who renewed the domain subscription on behalf of the holder.
Most registrars will also charge for their work in connection with maintenance of
registered information associated with the domain. A registrar is free to price his
services, which means that the amount domain name holders pay will vary. The annual
fee paid to Norid is NOK 50. The annual fee for the first year is covered by the
registration fee. The registrar notifies which domains he wants to renew in advance.
Domains which are not renewed by a registrar, will after several notifications be
deleted.
