Introduction

These are the additional rules applicable to registration of a domain name under fhs.no, vgs.no, gs.[county].no, fylkesbibl.no, folkebibl.no and museum.no. All the basic rules specified in the main document also apply to these domains, except for the requirement for registration in Norway's Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities (Enhetsregisteret) described in 5.1. This requirement is replaced by the requirements specified in the item "Who can apply?" below.

The aim of these domains is to enable Norway's schools, libraries and museums to register domain names gathered in a predictable structure.

Who can apply?

The applicant must represent an institution of the type in question:

  • fhs.no: "folkehøgskoler" colleges, vgs.no: upper secondary schools, gs.[county].no: primary and lower secondary schools
  • fylkesbibl.no: county libraries, folkebibl.no: municipal public libraries
  • museum.no: museums

What you can apply for?

You apply for a domain name for your institution. The domain name must represent the whole of, central parts of, or a natural abbreviation of the institution's actual name.

As a rule, you cannot apply to register domain names which do not have something to do with the institution's own name. Exceptions can be made here if the institution is known under another name in the outside world. The applicant must provide evidence of this to Norid when it submits the application in the normal way.

An institution may register and own up to 5 domain names under these generic domains.
