Guidelines: Registrations and updates

Object is a generic term for database entities. The tables at the bottom of this page show all the different objects and their corresponding attributes. Contacts and hosts for the domain name must be registered in advance before you can submit the domain application.

Registering a domain name

➊ Companies: Make sure the applicant has an organization type that is permitted to register .no domain names, see appendix E for the list.
➋ Individuals: Tell the applicant to provide himself a personal identification code by means of the PID automat. If he has provided himself a personal ID at an earlier occasion, the same ID should be used again.
➌ Inform the applicant about the the option of setting an authentication code.
➍ Collect the applicant's declaration.
➎ Make sure at least two name servers have been set up for the domain.
➏ Make sure you have registered the contacts and name servers for the domain.
➐ Start the transaction.

If the applicant is an embassy or an official committee, we need additional documentation in order to process the application. The documentation should be sent by email to info@norid.no, marked with the server transaction ID (svTRID). The EPP transaction will be queued for manual processing.

Updating objects

➊ Check against the table below that the relevant attribute can be changed.
➋ Make an EPP 'info' request against the object you wish to update.
➌ Start the update transaction.

Please note that changing the domain name holder follows a special procedure.

For each type of object there are some attributes you must register and some you can register. All objects may be updated.
