Data conversion - part 1

Last week we made the first conversion of database objects into a Draupne-compatible format. As expected we found a number of invalid data objects that have to be corrected before we can continue. To start with, we will make a few updates that may lead to questions from your customers, so here are the details on what is happening:

Organization objects

Some organizations are registered with multiple organization objects, i.e. the same organization number is registered more than once in our database. Because of this, some domain name holders have domains registered on more than one organization object.

This week we will tidy up the registrations so that all the domain names registered to a given holder will be registered to one organization object only. We will do this by transfering the domains to one organization object. The organization number will then be removed from the superfluous objects, which in turn will be deleted from the database after a few weeks.

When the domains get transferred, an automated receipt will be sent from auto-reg to the domain name holder. This will probably generate questions from the holder to you and Norid both.

It is important to note that the current applicant's declaration will still be in effect for such domains, as this update is purely technical in nature. The registration date, and consequently the deadline for filing a dispute, remains the same.

Registrar objects

There are also registrars that have multiple organization objects. We will correct these, too, so that both the registrar agreement and the domain names are linked to the same organization object. The affected registrars will receive a copy of the updates as they happen.

Be particularly aware if you have automated processes set up that rely on links between your registrar object and specific contact handles. You may need to make adjustments after the updates are made.

Other objects

There is also other incorrect data in our database. We are currently working on sorting and categorizing these, and we will be back with more information on this shortly. Some of you will have to do a number of updates on your customers' data as a consequence of this.

Please contact us if you have questions regarding this.
