Transfer a domain to a new holder

As an enterprise representative, you may need to transfer the domain name to another organization or a new organization number in the same enterprise. An individual holder may as well want to transfer his domain to another individual.

Another situation could be that you want to take over a domain from someone.

Take over a domain from another holder

You have been in contact with the holder and made an agreement on taking over his domain.

How to take over a domain

  1. Find a registrar. Specify the domain name that you want to take over.
  2. The registrar transfers the domain to himself.
  3. Specify your organization number (for enterprises) or your person identifier (PID) (for individuals) to which the domain shall be registered.
  4. The registrar verifies that you represent the domain holder and collects an applicant’s declaration from you.
  5. The registrar executes the transfer in our system.
  6. The old holder will recieve a confirmation email. You will get your confirmation from the registrar.

Transfer to an enterprise

You may need to move the domain if the organization number is deleted from the Brønnyøsund Register Centre (Enhetsregisteret), for example if the enterprise changes its form of business organization or owner, is wound up, or acquired by another organization. You may also happen to just want another organization (with another organization number) to take over the domain name.

How to transfer a domain to an enterprise

  1. Contact your registrar. Specify the organization number to which the domain shall be registered.
  2. The registrar verifies that you represent the domain holder.
  3. The registrar collects an applicant’s declaration from the new holder.
  4. The registrar executes the holder change in our system.
  5. A confirmation email is sent to you as the old holder. The new holder will get his confirmation from the registrar.

Transfer to an individual holder

The transfer can be from one individual holder to another, or from an enterprise to an individual holder.

How to transfer a domain to an individual holder

  1. Ask the new holder for his person identifier (PID). If he applies for a Norwegian domain name for the first time, he must provide himself with a person identifier from our PID automat service.
  2. Contact your registrar and give him the new holder’s person identifier.
  3. The registrar verifies that you represent the domain holder.
  4. The registrar collects an applicant’s declaration from the new holder.
  5. The registrar executes the transfer in our system. (If the new holder has to get his person identifier for the first time, the transfer cannot be executed immediately.)
  6. A confirmation email is sent to you. The new holder will get his confirmation from the registrar.

What does it cost to transfer a domain?

We charge the regular registration fee for a domain transfer. In addition you can expect the registrar to invoice you for the work involved.
