Guidelines: Change registrar

Transferring to a new registrar (EPP: transfer) can be done in one of two ways:

  • With the authentication code (AuthInfo)
  • With a one-time token

With the authentication code

  1. The holder wants you to become his registrar.
  2. The holder gives you the authentication code which you use to complete the transfer.
  3. Both registrars receive a confirmation via EPP. The holder receives a confirmation email.

If the domain has a transfer code set, but the holder cannot retrieve it

  1. The holder wants you to become his registrar.
  2. Check via EPP which contact addresses the holder has registered, and have the holder confirm whether they are up to date.
  3. Request a one-time token. Unless you manually specify another, the default recipient is the admin contact’s primary email address. For private domain names this is the holder himself. Note: The SMS option has not been implemented.
  4. The system generates the token and sends it to the holder.
  5. The holder passes you the token and you complete the transfer of the domain.
  6. Both registrars receive a confirmation via EPP. The holder receives a confirmation email.
